PaPeRo is a 14-year-long, 10-million-dollar research project being conducted by electronics giant NEC. PaPeRO will help the company to study the interactions between humans and robots, allowing NEC researchers to test a range of different behavioural and artificial intelligence algorithms.
At the moment PaPeRo can recognize faces and obstacles, and can dance. It is able to understand simple verbal instructions and respond appropriately with speech, simple facial expressions or actions. It can also take photographs and connect to the Internet.
